DNA Restriction Analysis (DNA Fingerprinting)
How can scientists compare the similarities and differences between two different samples of DNA? How are restriction endonucleases used to create RFLPs (Random Fragment Length Polymorphisms)? How can DNA fragments of different lengths be separated and studied? What is a DNA Fingerprint? In this lab sequence, you will use several restriction enzymes to digest DNA samples for analysis by agarose gel electrophoresis. The resulting DNA Fingerprint will allow you to distinguish among several DNA samples.
